Your Questions About Motivational Quotes For Work

Sandy asks…

Is this guy full of crap?

This motivational speaker type came into one of my classes with his long-winded and boring presentation about ‘building a resume’. Two quotes that struck me as incredibly stupid were “Employers don’t give a hoot what your GPA is” and “if you don’t have any job experience, nobody will hire you”.

If employers never hired anyone without job exeprience, how would anyone get job experience in the first place? With regards to the first, why would anyone want to pass hiring a smart, hard-working A-student to instead hire an unmotivated and stupid C student? This guy seems to be here on the mission of scaring undergrads into going out and working as underpaid labor for local companies.

Should I take him seriously or is he full of crap?

admin answers:

He has some truth, but some garbage. My take on it:

1) GPA – my experience is it only matters for your first job or within a year or two after you graduate, but after that, does not matter at all. Basically if you have no experience the potential employer needs something to evaluate (hence the GPA because there is almost nothing else), but after you have worked a bit, it’s all about skills, marketability of your work experience and how well you present/sell yourself in an interview. Think of it this way, a GPA is nothing more than a partial measurement of who you once were, not who you are now, and the longer ago that was, the less relevant it is.

2) “If you don’t have experience no one will hire you” – your logic is correct. Someone has to be hiring otherwise everyone would be unemployed . The reality is more like “if you don’t have experience, some will really want to hire, some might at least consider you, and some will never hire you.” On one extreme, professional services firms specifically target people with no experience (but great academic credentials) – mainly the “big X” consulting/auditing firms and boutique firms. They prefer to mold the new hires and have a culture that caters more to the young and energetic that are not likely to have any family or other external commitments. Industry is the other extreme, they prefer experienced people that don’t require as much training, and who are more mature and bring practical experience to the table. And some are in between, but recognize they have to hire the inexperienced to groom them to take over the reins one day.

Laura asks…

Great quote for a girls room? What is your life quote?

I am in the middle of decorating my kids rooms. My boys room is baseball themed. I just painted it light tan and today my son and I painted Blue and red horizontal stripes across it. I bought a wall decal for their room that says

“Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.”

I love it and it went with the room. I also plan on getting a rug for the room that looks like a baseball field and the baby boy I’m expecting has a baseball crib set his grandma is currently working on. It’s going to be great.

Now on to my little girls room. I am painting her room a mint green. She has white tress-ling across the bottom of the room. I also plan on putting hot pink polka dots on one wall which match her little chair that has her name on it and a green and pink cushion. I really wanted to get a special quote for her room too, but all the ones I see are so cheesy. Like girls are fabulous and stuff like that. I want something kind of motivational and awesome, like the boys one. Any ideas?

Sharon asks…

I have an ex boyfriend problem. Some advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!?

I don’t normally do this, and I strongly need other’s opinions because I am tired of hearing the same thing. My ex boyfriend and I well broke up actually on February 17, 2009, and ever since then, we have been on TERRIBLE terms. For some reason, we can NOT get along, and I just DO NOT get why. Anyways, he ended up sleeping with one of my close friends 4 TIMES, and she told me everytime herself. She would say what a good man he was in bed and that I was nothing but a mercy sex to him, and she would drunk dial me and tell me that they used handcuffs. It was really hurtful, but mine and my mutual ex boyfriend’s friends she was nothing to him but an easy good time. He KNOWS how hurt I am, but he NEVER makes the effort to be on my good side, he NEVER says hi to me, I put the effort ALL THE TIME. I mean, It’s been COUNTLESS times that I’ve tried to be civil with him, and he is SO rude EVERYTIME. Last time, I tried, he BLEW UP in my face accusing me of trying to interfere with his life and that I was pathetic and stupid and that he forgot I even existed. But there is a quote that says, “people that have pushed on have achieved something in places where there was no hope at all.” I am a genuinely good person and I am GENUINELY trying. I just tried to be civil again last night by IMing him and I SAID “I apologize for anything I said wrong, but I am nice, apart from my terrible taste in words, I am nice. and I am really trying, James, I really am. Please, James. It would be good if we could be friends.” He completely ignored the message and signed off on me. I literally lost a huge chunk of my pride and self respect by doing it, but I feel like life is too short to grudges for anyone. I just don’t understand why he’s doing this. I am literally going to have “I am trying” imprinted on my forehead for the rest of my life. It’s just so hard for me to see him be nice to EVERYONE except me. It just hurts so bad. I promise you guys, I am a nice girl. I care about everyone. It’s just my nature. I am also saying, I’m not trying to be crazy freak ex, but he is friends with the ex before me, and I just don’t understand why me and him can not get along. I have definitely moved on, but at the same time, I think it’s great if me and him could be okay with each other. I don’t find anything wrong with that. Also, me and him broke up because it was mutual. It wasn’t working out, so it wasn’t working out. i am also not trying to be a psycho freak, but im the kind of person who likes to patch things up with people. Anyways, I just need some encouraging and motivational advice. I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you to all who to took time to read this.

admin answers:

My advice would be to forget about this guy and get on with your life. He sounds like a terrible person and if you are such a sweetheart then you should have nothing to do with someone like that. Odds are that you can find someone a lot better.

Don’t waste time being a “peacemaker” or trying to be everyone’s “friend.” There are billions of people in the world. Putting effort into a friendship with a man who was so hurtful to you is a very foolish thing to do. Spend that energy on a man who deserves it.

admin answers:

I went through a similar thing with on of my ex’s… She was a lying, flirtatious, trick, and I was the stupid boy that stayed with her. When i finally dumped her for good, she wanted to be my friend, and I’m a nice guy, so I’m not going to tell her “no.” But I did tell her it would take some time to get over all the lies. Now, the hard part was that as my single-life went on, I learned of even more lies that she had told me, making me more and more angry at her. We still don’t get along, and we broke up over 2 years ago. I still try to be nice to her, which is what you should do, but let me tell you, it’s really hard. Ex’s usually don’t get along when lying is involved. If you want to be his friend, then just be nice to him, but don’t expect a great friendship. If I were you, I’d just ignore him, and see what he does. If he wants to be your friend, he will come talk to you, if he doesn’t then you won’t have to deal with him anymore. Also, apologizing is not a good idea. I tried that too, and it just gives them an edge in controlling your feelings. Don’t apologize to that jerk! But like I said, ignore him for a while, it’s the best thing you can do. It worked for me, and I still try to ignore this girl, but she keeps trying to get into my life. She even gave these other two girls I dated after her, dirty looks and bitched at one of them for getting involved with me. People are crazy, but you sound like a nice girl, don’t let this guy control your feelings or your judgment. Be strong, and Jesus loves you :)

I hope this helps, and I know how you feel… Buck up soldier :)

Your Questions About Motivational Speeches

Can you give me a few examples of persuasive/motivational speakers?

Here’s the catch. They need to be online speakers, speaking to just a camera (not an audience). Just like Ray William Johnson or Perez Hilton. But they need to be people who are giving a persuasive or motivational speech. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Ken asks…

Can anyone write a Motivational speech for me please?

I have to write one for school but cant think of anything give me a motivational speech thats original?x

admin answers:

Well, when I write speeches I like to write them in the exact opposite of what I’d normally do. It becomes easier to write for me and more entertaining for everyone. For example you can write it about motivating others to:

1. Pirate music/movies
2. Drive over the speed limit
3. Smoke cigarettes

Get the picture? It becomes humorous and engaging to the audience – and it’s pretty original.

Nancy asks…

where can I find audio clips of famous speeches?

Like Informative speeches or motivational ones that people have made. I wanna use some in a video. I’m having a bit of a struggle finding any with google. :(
Just a website that has the speeches available for mps download (format doesnt matter)
Thank you :)

admin answers:

Great question!

Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Go to www.archive.org and fish around. Use their internal search engine for key people. Look around in the “audio” section. It’s great. And all of their stuff is easy to download!!!

2. Go to google again. Type: “Winston Churchill” or “Franklin D. Roosevelt” or “Martin Luther King.” Next to the name, type “audio” or “video.”

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Which person from outside the Heat organization should give the team a motivational speech?

I’m guessing Will Ferrell

Scottie Pippen.

Pippen knows how it feels to not be the best on a team, he could tell Bosh to calm down with all that shooting and he could tell LeBron to stop with those jumpshots and just give it the best player on the Heat, Wade.

Why I Write
Lindsey Reams
If I were a writer, this would be where I would put a catchy hook to get you interested in why I write. I guess I could have come up with some motivational quote or a cheesy metaphor to create a better, more interesting opening sentence than the one I have chosen. However, had I done that simple step this essay would have a completely different tone. If I had written what was assigned I’d probably have written something along the lines of, “Writing is a plain field of prairie grass that can take you as far as your eyes can see.” Then, I would have come across to you, reader, as another student with another essay on why I write. The reason I didn’t give you this version of my introductory sentence is because I am not a writer, I am a thinker.
I say I am a thinker and not a writer because I’ve been able to write since I learned the alphabet in kindergarten, but I only began to create and think about words a short while ago and will continue to learn for as long as I live. It’s not the physical appearance of a word that holds the art, it’s the emotion behind the words. These emotions come from my mind and heart, not from a pen or pencil.
As a thinker, I am aroused by my thoughts; which goes without saying. I am motivated by everything that goes on around me and my opinions on how life works. I know the things which bring me prosperity, and I accentuate them. However, on the other hand, I also know what provokes my inner poignance, and periodically am driven to elaborate on such things. In all honesty, it’s not very often that I put my thoughts in a physical form, unless assigned to. Notwithstanding, if a come up with a thought that remains in my mind, I often times find myself scribbling it on to a scrap piece of paper. Maybe it’s the idea of adding permanency to the thought that calls me to leaves it mark, not necessarily for others to read, but for me to read.
I’ve been asked why I write and my answer to this is for my own personal benefit: to lock thoughts. As sad and selfish as it may sound, the only soul that goes into consideration while I’m writing is myself. I don’t consider my friends, I don’t consider my family, and quite frankly, I don’t consider my Junior Communication Arts teacher. If I did, this essay would be generic and strict to the requirements I was given. Instead, I have chosen to take my own toll on things; tell those who read this why I actually write and what actually motivates me. I am a thinker. A thinker who writes thoughts.

admin answers:

Exactly.

how can i cheer myself up?

I have recently been issued my GCSE results and were thoroughly disappointed in them (2 a’s and 4 c’s :’() Because of this im so low down, normally i am happy, but not now. Knowing that i will have to retake some exams which i worked so hard for, knowing that my friends who i outshone in class did 10x better than me, knowing that the teachers will mirror my mood…. it all is just ruining my evening and will carry on from weeks to come. I really love jump roping and dancing is a great exercise. There are lots of dance workout videos that are good exercise and might be fun ( i have never personally used those though because I am a dancer). To make muscles smaller you just have to stop working them and eventually they will get smaller also cardio might help with this.
Hope I helped.

Paul asks…

Do you consider Lakewood Church (pastor Joel Osteen) to be a church in the traditional sense of the meaning?

I’ve watched his weekly program a few times out of sheer curiosity and have not heard a single message that is truly rooted in Christ’s teachings. To me he is just a motivational speaker who sprinkles in bible versus the way I use to sprinkle barely relevant quotes into papers when I was in high school. I don’t even understand why the “members” have their bibles out during the “service”. Probably because they bought the bible in Joel Osteen’s gift shop. Between the weak message and the constant barrage of advertisements to buy his book and the dvd of this week’s “message”, I’m left feeling sorry for those who consider this their way to “Keep Holy the Sabbath”.

Please, set me straight if I’m wrong, but only if you have a good argument. I took many theology and philosophy classes in college and am a religious education teacher at my church, so weak arguments aren’t going to work on me.
This is in reponse to Carol M’s statement that every one of Joel’s messages is rooted in Christ. Today his sermon was about not eating fatty foods and staying away from cold cuts because they have nitrites in them. He mentioned two random bible versus without expanding the reasoning for including those versus and only spoke of the bible in terms of how David was stronger because he ate vegetables.

Joel could have easily said somthing like: “God in his goodness and wisdom provides humans with everything they need to survive. This earth, His glorious creation and gift to us, provides all the nutrients we need, and if we simply partake in his bounty as he has given it to us, we will better provide for our bodies.” In my “limited theological formation”, I was able to create a more Christ-centered, cogent message than Joel Osteen.

Donald asks…

Please provide motivational words…..?

I often feel as if I’m alone in the world. I have to work twice or triple as hard as anybody else to accomplish something. I’m 17 and I’m just starting to see the world in a diverse perspective. I have never met my mother and my father passed away when I was 10. I live with my grandmother and I love her to death but I hardly see her because she is always at work. I know she won’t be with me forever and when she goes away I will be by myself because I have no other family. I think about my future and study really hard because I want to go somewhere in life. Although I try hard I often feel I’m not good enough and I lack an identity. Im scared to think about the future but that will not stop it from arriving. I’m bit depressed but I know I must fight because I have to be a fighter in order to survive. I need some motivation because I get sad often times. Just need some words of wisdom please…

admin answers:

I was orphaned at age 8, widowed at age 30 and 35 and raised 5 kids alone. I graduated college at age 40 and found love again. But, I had to let go of the idea that my life could or would be the way I had imagined it or hoped it would be and allow the universe to show me. Life is hard, it’s so hard that we try to protect you from the reality. But that can only last until you’re an adult.

I feel, at the very base of your character that you have the tenacity it takes to survive in this world. We are not meant to be happy every minute of every day, try to remember that and that some days it’s okay to feel down, as long as you don’t wallow there. You can and will be your own hero.

I suffer too from low self esteem, and I acted out and still do by letting men use me and walk all over me and never defending my position. Don’t let that happen, be strong. You are your temple, protect it, keep it safe, and love it. :)

Motivational words for dieting?

Im 14 150pounds 5’5.

I want to be 110.

I always say OK IM GOING ON A DIET TOMORROW.

the next day is like.. ok the next day im going on a diet.

I dnt know it just feels comfortable to put it off

admin answers:

Well huni good for you. The first step is knowing you need to diet a little to lose some weight. You are on the right tract…

And yes you are right its always easier to say “tomorrow” well today is not yesterdays tomorrow…lol sooo get in gear…start out slow.

Just watch what you eat every day.cut out soda one day, or chips and cookies..fried foods…do a little at a time. Then work your way up to a good full day and week of diet …and include a bit of exercise in there. Walking, if to cold outside do it right in the house…just stand in place and step. Twist…bend…..

Hopefully too you have some sort of parental/family support that will be a good thing and help alot too.

It will take time to lose 40 pounds but if you are determined to do so YOU can DO IT. ! :)

so don’t put off till tomorrow anymore for what you can start right here right now today.

Keep a diet journal…write down everything you eat and drink in a day..and i do mean EVERYTHING..good and bad stuff…then at the end of the day…put a red check mark by the stuff you need to try and omit or cut down…make sure to drink plenty of water, drink milk, and take a multi vitamin. Eat veggies and fruit…

You can set your mind to anything you really truly wanna do…go for it huni you are young and you can do it!

GOOD LUCK!

Diet and exercise safely
